F1 Drivers Cars Past and Present

As we approach the halfway point of the F1 season, we decided to take a look at the top 5 ranked drivers in the F1 2023 driving standings. After some digging, we were able to find the first cars that these drivers owned and what their current most expensive car is, to see how much of an upgrade they’ve had since they first learned to drive.

1 - Max Verstappen - Red Bull Racing

Dutch and Belgian driver Verstappen certainly has had a significant upgrade between his first and current car. Starting with a yellow Renault Clio that his mum and dad bought him to his current Aston Martin and Red Bull collaboration Valkyrie Hypercar worth $2.7 million.

2 - Sergio Perez - Red Bull Racing

Perez’ first car was a hand-me-down from his siblings and was written off by the Red Bull driver when he forgot his boots for a football match. He decided to drive down a road the wrong way but crashed into a car that was coming in the other direction. Hopefully he takes better care of his Bugatti Chiron that is estimated to be worth $3 million.

3 - Fernando Alonso - Aston Martin

Aston Martin’s Alonso first owned a “yellow, yellow/brown” Renault Megane, he must have liked it as he won the World Drivers Championship in 2005 and 2006 with Renault. Now his most expensive car in his collection is the Maserati GranCabrio worth approximately $335,00 for a base model.

Everyone knows Lewis Hamilton whether they love F1 or not, and this British icon owned another British icon for his first car, a Mini Cooper. Although now having a vast collection of cars from McLarens to Mercedes, his most expensive is the stunning 1966 Shelby Cobra 427, estimated to be worth $4 million.
